AT&T Statement: “T-Mobile Customers Will Have To Replace 3G Handsets After Merge”

March 21st, 2011

Posted by: Ray Walters March 21, 2011 This is getting a bit concerning, Yahoo Finance is reporting that AT&T has made a statement saying that T-Mo customers who have 3G handsets will need to have their devices replaced if the recently announced merger goes through.  The reason being that once the acquisition is finalized, AT&T plans on reconfiguring how the current T-Mo towers work, re-purposing them for 4G service in an effort to increase the speed of their network overall.

California Supreme Court Rules Warrantless Cell Searches Legal

January 11th, 2011

Oh crap, better set your phone’s texts to auto-destruct if you’re living in the good ol’ CA and plan on dealing drugs or whatnot. I don’t know what illegalities you’d be texting in the first place, as it seems to me to be completely idiotic to write down, photograph, or otherwise record the things you’re doing you know could get you in trouble, but check out this new law: A 5-2 decision in People versus Gregory Diaz released just yesterday says that a case involving the arrest of a drug dealer way back in 2007 stands. This case is important because it was an appeal by the dealer, Diaz, saying his arrest should have been thrown out because the police searched his cell phone’s text messages without a warrant.

European operators want Apple, Google and Facebook to pay for mobile data

December 8th, 2010

While major European mobile carriers are reporting high revenues thanks to the surging of mobile data usage in the last few years, they’re also worried about it. As more and more phone owners use services provided by the likes of Google, Facebook, Apple and Yahoo on their handsets, carriers are faced with bandwidth problems and the need of building bigger networks. Reportedly, operators’ annual spending on network equipment will rise 28% by 2014, while overall end-user revenue is expected to fall about 1% a year
