We recently wrote about the official OS 6.0.0.246 for the BlackBerry Torch and RIM has sent over a few vague yet helpful notes about the latest update. It’s hard to be motivated to update your OS when RIM or the carriers don’t tell you what has been improved, but it looks like .246 has some worthwhile improvements

UPDATED: TELUS BlackBerry Torch Now Available to Business Clients and Consumers

TELUS now has the BlackBerry Torch 9800 available to business clients with 5 or more employees. The device is also available to consumers for $199.99 on a 3 year term. After waiting for the BlackBerry Torch to hit Canada on September 24th, it’s great to see the device spreading fast albeit pushed back a little

Have a BlackBerry Torch? Get Some Cool Apps for It

The BlackBerry Torch has been out for some time now and it’s a pretty cool device. The combination of a touchscreen, keyboard and trackpad makes for some quality app interaction. There are around 277 apps right now in the BlackBerryCool Store that are both free and paid, and compatible with BlackBerry 6 and the Torch.

We haven’t heard much about what themes will look like with BlackBerry 6 and the Torch but it probably won’t allow for as much customization as we saw in OS 5. It’s not clear if theme developers will be able to customize the homescreen to the same extent, but it’s possible some experts will be able to hack their way into the files and do some cool stuff

BlackBerryCool Roundup for the Week of August 16th

It’s never a dull week here at BlackBerryCool. This week, the biggest news was probably the launch of App World 2.0 which features carrier and credit card billing, as well as 99 cent and $1.99 apps. This is hopefully going to really help push the number of downloads in App World and create a better app economy for BlackBerry.

Video of the BlackBerry Bold 9700 Running BlackBerry 6 and WebKit Browser

YouTube Link There were rumors going around for some time that the Bold 9700 would not be getting BlackBerry 6, which may have stemmed from the fact that the Bold 9780 rumors were floating around making things a little confusing. The most recent video of the Bold 9700 running BlackBerry 6 shows what it’s like using the device with the latest WebKit browser. Apparently, BlackBerry 6 runs faster on the Bold 9700 than it does on the Torch, which is actually a little disappointing.

BlackBerry Torch Sells 150K Units Over Weekend and Costs $183 to Build

Analysts at RBC Capital Marktets and Stifel Nicolaus are saying that sales of the BlackBerry Torch are at around 150,000 during the first weekend . Although the WSJ compares this to Apple and its 1.7 million iPhone 4 units sold in the first three days, RIM’s device sales follow a different trend. Enterprise clients, for example, generally don’t purchase on launch day and these sales will trickle in over the course of the next few months.
