Google Maps update adds mobile Places photo uploads

Google Maps for Android has been updated, tweaking the mapping appearance and adding the ability to add photos to places listings while mobile. Google Maps v5.1 introduces an “Add a photo” button next to the “Check in here” option in individual business listings, allowing you to choose from an existing picture or snap a new one with your phone’s camera. Those uploaded images are then included in the gallery of shots stored for each listing.

Swype Beta 3.25 Now Available with Copy/Paste Features and more [Video]

Today the latest version of the popular Swype keyboard for Android has been released to beta testers. While many have probably seen or heard about it already I’ll be posting the videos below for you all to see the new features in action.

Top 10 Android Apps Account for 43 Percent of All Activity

The fine folks at Nielsen over at Nielsen Wire have done some calculating and have found a couple of interesting statistics. First, and perhaps most obviously, from what Nielsen Smartphone Analytics have come up with after metering thousands of Android smartphones, the average Android smartphone user spends 67% of their on-device time, or 56 minutes per day, on apps, while 33% of their smartphone time is spent on the mobile web.

Google Maps updated with bubble buttons, Transit Notifications and more

Google has just updated the Google Maps Application for Android to version 5.9.0 and with it comes many improvements to transit navigation, new labs features and more. One that may be really helpful to many in the big cities is transit navigation notifications but that is still in beta with this latest update. Google has been updating many of their apps as of late and Google Maps just keeps getting better and better.

Google Maps 5.8 Arrives With Improved Places, Photo Uploads

Users can now upload photos directly from their handset to tie to a Place, making it much easier to see what kind of establishment you are considering for dinner.

Amazon Android Tablet Could Come Before October, Priced to Sell Millions

We have heard more than a few comments over the past few weeks and months regarding an Android Tablet that might come in a brown unmarked box with that Amazon logo across the side. We have been hearing a few of the same comments as recent stories like this one in the Wall Street Journal regarding when we might actually see these tablets come to life. Last we heard they were expected sometime this holiday season and we even heard a few codenames , but latest news and tips are saying much earlier, possibly as soon as October.

Facebook for Android 1.6 adds video upload capability

Facebook has updated its app for Android users with a cool new feature. The latest version of the app is 1.6 and it will operate on Android devices running 1.5 and up. The biggest new feature of the update is that users can now upload video to their Facebook profile using version 1.6.

Google Maps Now Rates Restaurants

Google is pushing a relatively small update to Google Maps today to enhance its “Places” feature. ‘Best Ever’ ratings, as the update dubs them, will help you decide what restaurant in the area to go to. Google Maps Now Knows When Your Bus is Late

At least it does if you live in one of the six cities Google has so far partnered with. Boston, Portland, San Diego, and San Francisco, as well as Madrid and Turin across the pond, have all worked with Google to include a real-time schedule of their public transit systems in the latest version of Google Maps. This update brings peace of mind to commuters previously left waiting at stops, with just the knowledge of when their bus should have arrived
