It’s obviously a week for Android 2.1 updates, as LG has pushed out its Eclair ROM for the LG Optimus GT540 . The new firmware takes the GT540 from the Android 1.6 OS it shipped with to Android 2.1, complete with live wallpapers, multiple Google account support and Microsoft Exchange support. There’s also Bluetooth 2.1 support, HTML5 in the browser, and the Quick Contacts UI

Best Buy confirm Samsung Galaxy Tab WiFi-only model
October 25th, 2010We’ve already seen leaks pointing to a November 14 release of the Sprint version of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab ; now we have pricing for the 7-inch Froyo slate.  Pocketables spotted Best Buy listings of the Tab in both WiFi-only and 3G/WiFi versions for Sprint and Verizon, complete with the promise of a starting price of $499.99

Opera Mobile for Android due within a month: pinch-zoom & hardware acceleration
October 14th, 2010Opera has announced that Opera Mobile for Android will be released within a month, complete with hardware acceleration and pinch-to-zoom.  The company claims that the former “allows Opera Mobile to run at lightning speed†and that “navigating a page will be faster than ever, and the improvements to the UI will be momentous.†Meanwhile, rather than the two-stage zooming in Opera Mobile currently, the new version for Android will support multiple levels of pinch-zooming.

Motorola DROID 2 does Verizon 360-degree turn

Two Acer Android 2.2 tablets due Q4 2010?
July 14th, 2010Acer’s 7-inch Android tablet will get a larger sibling device, a 10-inch version, according to notebook sources speaking to DigiTimes .  Both units will run Android 2.2 – complete with Adobe Flash support – on ARM chipsets, and be focused on multimedia use; that will allow Acer to continue to push their own dedicated ereader products (shown below) with minimal overlap
