Just one day before the launch of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the US, Samsung has published the results of an online survey which suggests that American customers are simply crazy about tablets. According to the company, “90% of U.S. consumers either already own a tablet, or would consider buying one.” This certainly gives Samsung high hopes when it comes to the Galaxy Tab 10.1, which runs Android Honeycomb and is touted as the world’s thinnest tablet (8.6mm – 0.2mm thinner than Apple’s iPad 2 )
Sprint will be launching the Wi-Fi version of the Blackberry Playbook this Sunday according to the twitter page of Spring Marketing Director Gerald Evans.

Research in Motion has unveiled a beta BlackBerry Java software development kit (SDK) v7.0, offering developers a chance to test their apps on their BlackBerry 7 operating systems. The SDK includes simulators for the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone devices and will allow developers to prepare their apps in time for the handsets’ launch. The BlackBerry App World is currently accepting app submissions for the new devices

Not long after we saw it in some official video tutorials, the unannounced BlackBerry Curve Apollo 9370 has been spotted now in a lengthy hands-on video. The first noticeable thing in the video is that the Apollo is really thin – just like the Bold 9900 . Other than that, the handset doesn’t look too different from the older models (Curve 8520 and Curve 3G 9300)

Today, the BlackBerry Playbook has been officially unveiled in the UK. The 7-inch tablet, which represents RIM’s first foray into the tablet space, will become available on June 16 at Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy.

As the Blackberry World 2011 press conference in Orlando, Florida comes to an end, we have seen lots of cool stuff including the BlackBerry Bold 9900 / 9930 and a look at Blackberry OS 7, but we havn’t heard many rumors until now. According to BGR, multiple sources have reported that RIM is indeed already working on the successor to the PlayBook despite the fact that the 4G versions of the tablet have yet to be released. The “PlayBook 2″ will not be very different from the original, but will feature a larger 10-inch screen.

According to a new study, the Android Market has passed Apple iTunes in offering more free applications for smartphones and tablets. Google’s Android Market offers 134,342 free applications while Apple has about 13,000 fewer. The study also predicts that within five months, the Android Market will be the largest applications store, period, followed by iTunes and the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace.
Already available to US Cellular and Alltel customers, the Samsung Gem SCH-i100 can be now purchased by Verizon customers, too.

It seems that all of the reviews that have been coming out on the Playbook have scared Verizon Wireless just a little bit. Lots of reviews have been saying that the playbook is “half-baked,” meaning that there are a lot of incomplete features of the OS and apps. One problem is the Blackberry Bridge app; the only features that actually work with the smartphone and tablet connected are mail, calendar, and contacts.
