Verizon Droid Incredible 2 previewed by Wirefly, launch date confirmed

April 21st, 2011

Wirefly has unveiled that Verizon’s new HTC Droid Incredible 2 would be released on April 28 (just as exected) – although Verizon has still not officially announced the smartphone. Wirefly posted a video preview of the Incredible 2 on its official website comparing it to the original Droid Incredible, which is a bit smaller (because it has a 3.7 inch WVGA display, instead of a 4 inch WVGA one). The retailer’s video confirms that the new Incredible is a global smartphone (it’s got a SIM card inside), and it doesn’t support Verizon’s LTE / 4G network

Android Community 101: Android Licensing

April 5th, 2011

There’s been a bit of confusion on the part of everyone from the highest ranked “who is not to be named” official working for a manufacturer to the lowliest developer of apps and writer of posts on what it means for a company to have their product “licensed” with Google. One of the more popular ideas is that for a manufacturer to release a product with Android mobile OS working on it, they MUST go through Google to have it licensed and approved. This thought process lead to a rather large firestorm of fear that Android was going “closed-source.” You can read all about that nightmare in a column called Android Remains Open, Android Remains Powerful , or you can continue on below to know the truth behind licensing.

Android, FTW!

March 26th, 2011

Two weeks ago I purchased my wife an iPhone 4 to get her to send/receive text messages  (my new toy by proxy) and I got me a couple of Palm Pre’s via craigslist, as I wanted to see what all the fuss was about for webOS’ coming out party with the just announced HP Pre 3 and new Touch Pad.  Obviously, I am in the Android camp but I wanted to keep an open mind and review the competition objectively to explain why I choose Android over anything else.  (I was not able to get a Windows Phone 7 device, so while it is gone, it is not forgotten).

Google: “No Honeycomb For You, at Least Not Yet”.

March 25th, 2011

Posted by: Walter March 25, 2011 All of us Honeycomb maniacs are going to have to wait awhile for our favorite community developers to get their hands on the Honeycomb source from Google.  Businessweek reported yesterday that Google is going to be holding back the source code for Honeycomb due to the fact that it is tailored specifically for tablets, and is not ready to be customized and put on handsets.  A quote from the Businessweek article: Google says it will delay the distribution of its newest Android source code, dubbed Honeycomb, at least for the foreseeable future. The search giant says the software, which is tailored specifically for tablet computers that compete against Apple’s iPad, is not yet ready to be altered by outside programmers and customized for other devices, such as phones. The move by Google, while disconcerting, is not surprising

Sexy iPhone Apps — Newer, Sexier, in HD!

March 25th, 2011

Back when this article first hit the ‘net, Nine Inch Nails’ front man Trent Reznor had only recently assailed Apple for blocking an update to the band’s iPhone app because it used “objectionable words.” Apple had long maintained that only G-rated material would make it to the display windows of the App Store. A lot has changed since then.

HTC Opening “Scribe” Tech to Third Party Devs

March 24th, 2011

Posted by: Walter March 24, 2011 While the jury may still be out for some concerning the upcoming HTC Flyer/EVO View 4G and it’s Scribe powered pen, there is some exciting news as HTC has decided to open up the Scribe technology to 3rd party developers, which means that we should see some pen powered apps in the future.  All this depending of course on the adoption rate that HTC is going to see with people actually buying the Flyer. ReadWriteWeb did an interview with HTC PR Rep Keith Nowak, here is a quote from the article: Even if you’re only casually following the developments in the tablet ecosystem, you’ve probably heard a little something about the HTC Flyer
