Cricket Wireless is certainly not known for offering high-end smartphones, so I was surprised to find out that the regional US carrier is getting ready to launch the Huawei Glory (aka Huawei M886). Now, Huawei usually makes low-to mid-end phones (like the Ascend , released by Cricket at the end of last year), but the Glory is a high-end device and, fortunately, it’s also affordable

First MIPS32 smartphone passes Android Compatibility Test suite

One of the things that is so great about Android and its open source nature is that the OS can be used to power cheap smartphones for people on a strict budget and countries where people generally aren’t able to afford the high-end and expensive handsets that many of us take for granted in the US and Europe. One of the more costly components inside a smartphone is the processor and so far, ARM platforms rule the Android world.

LG P930 to be a new Android tablet. Or maybe a phone with a 1280 x 720 display?

Until now, LG has officially introduced only one Android tablet – the Optimus Pad . Known in the US as T-Mobile G-Slate, the Optimus Pad runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb and features an 8.9 inch screen with a 1280 x 768 pixel resolution.

Google Nexus S 4G launched by Sprint for $199 on contract. Best Buy sells it for $149

As expected , today Sprint released the Nexus S 4G , which has become the carrier’s first Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone. Sprint is selling the Nexus S 4G for $199.99 with a new 2-yr contract agreement. To get the handset at this price, you need to opt for one of Sprint’s “plans with unlimited data and the $10/month Premium Data add-on charge.” If you don’t want to buy the Samsung-made smartphone directly from Sprint, you can also get it at Best Buy, which offers it for only $149 on contract

Android Hacks and ROMs available this week

It’s time to start a new feature here on Unwired View. Recently I’ve been paying more and more attention to the hoardes of official and unofficial Android ROMs, roots, source code leaks, and other forms of Android hackery, and realized how hard it is to keep track and make sense of it all.
